Microplastics Workshop Ramla Bay

"Microplastics are small (<5mm in diameter) plastic particles which are introduced into the environment through clothing, cosmetics, industrial processes and the breakdown of plastic waste.

The Gaia Foundation will host a Microplastics workshop which will be held on Ramla Bay on the 19th of May 2018.

Microplastics have been targeted by Gaia during Beach Clean Ups a number of times, however we cannot solve this problem by ourselves. We are looking for as many people as possible to help us increase awareness.

During the workshop, the beach will be split up into sections and a number of people will be assigned to each section. We encourage people to be creative and make their own filtering mechanisms to remove the plastic from the sand. These can be very simple. For instance, by putting sand and plastic in a bucket of water, the sand will sink and the plastic will float. As an incentive, the best equipment will win a prize.

Kindly let me know if you would be interested in taking part in this educational experience by emailing gabriella@projectgaia.org

Together we can make Malta’s beaches cleaner!"

This event will be held at Ramla L-Hamra Gozo on 19 May from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm.
